Inkspot Fancy

I understand this is a reboot of a series from the late 90s and early 2000s and if it was written half as entertainingly as this one is, I may have to look up some of the old volumes, because I really enjoyed this book.

The titular Quantum and Woody are brothers who haven't gotten along since they were kids owing in large part to how they both related to their father - biological dad of one, foster of the other. But when the death of their father brings them back together, they have to put aside their differences to figure out how their dad actually died.

Well, I say they have to, but it turns out most of the time they don't. While the plot is nominally about fighting bad guys and finding out what happened to their dad, but the actual story is about the two of them working out their differences and trying to come to terms with how to relate to one another as brothers. And that's what I love. It's not a relationship I've seen a lot in the comics I've read, and the way the two of them interact with one another was more fascinating than any supervillain fight could be.

The bad guys were suitably over the top, and they mystery of who and why was amusing. I did sometimes feel like it was trying a little too hard, but by and large, this was a really entertaining book for me and I'm psyched for reading the next volume (once I pick it up) and this author is quickly becoming a must-buy for me, between this and Gambit!
